Surah Us Sajda
The title of this Surah has been derived from Verse 15, where the word “Sajdah” occurs, which means prostration.
All the religions have prescribed some sort of prayers to their deities and gods. Islam has prescribed Salaat (Muslim Prayer) for the worship of Allah (S.W.T). It includes standing straight, bowing, prostration as well as sitting. Sajdah is the best part of Salaat, as sincerest prostration to Allah (S.W.T) in humility is the highest form of submission to the Creator.
Hazrat Aadam (A.S), as the first man, became the crown creation of Allah (S.W.T). All the Angels were ordered to prostrate to him. Only Iblees (Shaitaan) did not prostrate so he was derelicted. The title “Sajdah” in this Surah has great stress that Allah (S.W.T) loves those who prostrate to Him and remembers Him much in this position to get His bounties.
Whenever this Verse, or other Verses of the Holy Quran which prescribe Sajdah are recited or heard, Muslims must prostrate, facing the Holy Ka’aaba, placing forehead on pure ground whilst in Wudu (Ablution) .
This Surah is basically concerned with pure worship of Allah (S.W.T). Prostration is only for the most benevolent Allah (S.W.T), who confers His bounties to those who believe in His Oneness, accept the Prophethood of the last Messenger (S.A.W) and keep faith in the Day of Judgment.
Hazret Abu Zarr (R.A) mentioned that once in winter, our Beloved Prophet (S.A.W) was walking outside whilst the leaves were falling from the trees. He (S.A.W) held a branch of a tree and the leaves started to fall. He (S.A.W) said “When a Muslim prays seeking the pleasure of Allah (S.W.T) his sins fall from him like these leaves from this tree”.
